Thinking about getting a snood for your long-eared companion? How do you choose the right size to ensure it serves its purpose, is comfortable to wear, and doesn’t become your dog’s least favourite accessory? Can this ear protection (which is often called a “dog ear sock,” “dog ear scarf,” or even a “dog ear bandana” on the street 😄) bring your pup joy and make them happy to wear it?
We’re here to answer all these questions (and more), so let’s dive in!
I Want to Buy a Snood – What Size Should I Choose?
The size of the snood depends on your dog’s breed, age, and weight. Of course, there are other factors (such as head and neck circumference, length, etc.), but these three main parameters are usually enough to determine the right size.
For each snood, you’ll find a size chart in the product’s photo gallery. Simply match your dog’s details to the chart, and you’ll see which size will work best for your long-eared friend.

What If I’m Still Unsure About the Size?
If you’re unsure which size is right for your dog, you can enter their details in the designated box below the product description - for example: (English Cocker Spaniel, 11 kg, 3 years old). Even if you accidentally pick the wrong size, we’ll adjust it based on the information you provide.
Which Type of Waterproof Snood Should I Choose - Daily or Double - Thick?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions by our customers worldwide. So, what’s the difference between a daily and a double-thick snood?
- Daily waterproof snoods are designed to protect ears from moisture, light rain, and dirt while also keeping them neatly in place. They’re easy to use, which is why they’re the most popular choice (we use them for our own dogs too!).
- Double-thick waterproof snoods are made for long walks in extremely wet and rainy weather. They’re thicker but provide extra protection to keep ears dry.
So, which one should you choose? It depends on how you plan to use the snood—if it’s for short walks, go for the daily one. If you need something for hiking in the rain or snow, the double-thick version is the way to go!
I Chose a Double-Thick Snood - Will It 100% Protect My Dog’s Ears?
Double-thick snoods are made from waterproof fabric and do a great job at keeping ears dry during rainy walks and outdoor adventures. However, if you’re planning a five-hour walk in heavy rain or letting your dog swim in a lake, the ears will likely get wet—not because of the fabric itself, but due to water running down their fur.

Can I Use It During Water Activities?
Yes, you can! But if your dog spends a long time in the water, their ears will eventually get wet.
Should I Choose a Standard Snood or an Adjustable One?
An adjustable snood is the best choice if you want to adjust the elastic tension by yourself. This is your dog’s first snood. Your dog is still growing. You’re choosing a double-thick snood.
A standard snood is great if your dog is already used snoods. You’re buying a replacement for a previous snood. You don’t want to adjust the elastic by yourself.

What’s the Difference Between Muslin and Cotton? Which One Is Better?
Muslin is cotton as well, but it’s woven differently. Regular cotton is denser and stiffer, while muslin is lightweight and soft. There’s no clear winner here - both are natural, breathable, and great for ear protection. However, due to its softness, muslin tends to wear out faster.
How Long Will My Snood Last?

A snood will serve you for several seasons—so chances are, you’ll get bored of it before it needs replacing! 😄
My Dog Doesn’t Want to Wear a Snood - What Should I Do?
This is completely normal, especially if it’s your dog’s first snood. We recommend positive reinforcement - use their favourite treats or toys, and introduce the snood during fun activities like mealtime, playtime, or walks. This way, your dog will associate wearing the snood with exciting experiences!
